Giftshop Project Space is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Seth Nelson and Hunter Stabler. As art school roommates, Nelson and Stabler collaborated frequently. In pairing these two after a five-year separation, this exhibition contrasts the non-collaborative drawings of once like-minded artists.

Seth Nelson's drawings evoke the sensation of constant off-centering that characterizes the fantastic. In Head 10, a whirling mass of recognizable forms produces a series of perceptual reversals.

Hunter Stabler's ink drawings and paper cut-outs recall experiences of heightened visual acuity. Stabler drafts intricate, precise patterns -- creating more detail than the eye can process at one time.

Seth Nelson (Tualatin, OR) works as a librarian in Chicago. Nelson holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MS in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois. Nelson runs undergroundchicago.com, the leading source for Chicago pedway news and information.

Hunter Stabler (Easley, SC) lives and works in Philadelphia. Stabler received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been included in exhibitions at Pageant Gallery, Philadelphia; Hiestand Gallery, Ohio; Nightingale Gallery, NY; and Shinola Gallery, Baltimore, among others. Stabler was recently selected for the 2008 Philagrafika portfolio.
